{"id":1545,"date":"2023-05-17T09:42:06","date_gmt":"2023-05-17T09:42:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ubl.jfn.ac.lk\/?p=1545"},"modified":"2023-09-27T07:20:39","modified_gmt":"2023-09-27T07:20:39","slug":"the-student-internship-program-at-ubl-jaffna","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ubl.jfn.ac.lk\/index.php\/the-student-internship-program-at-ubl-jaffna\/","title":{"rendered":"The student internship program at UBL- Jaffna"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"768\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/ubl.jfn.ac.lk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/STUDENTS-INTERNSHIP-PROGRAM-UBL--768x1024.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1647\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ubl.jfn.ac.lk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/STUDENTS-INTERNSHIP-PROGRAM-UBL--768x1024.png 768w, https:\/\/ubl.jfn.ac.lk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/STUDENTS-INTERNSHIP-PROGRAM-UBL--225x300.png 225w, https:\/\/ubl.jfn.ac.lk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/STUDENTS-INTERNSHIP-PROGRAM-UBL--1152x1536.png 1152w, https:\/\/ubl.jfn.ac.lk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/STUDENTS-INTERNSHIP-PROGRAM-UBL--1536x2048.png 1536w, https:\/\/ubl.jfn.ac.lk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/STUDENTS-INTERNSHIP-PROGRAM-UBL--1x1.png 1w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>KEY TASKS:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Activities in which the Technology Transfer Intern will participate will include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Collect and Review invention disclosures and related information submitted&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Assess the development of technology since initial disclosure (may include speaking with the primary inventor)&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Perform market research to understand the competitive environment (Internet searches, industry publications, calling organizations)&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Evaluate the potential market opportunity for each technology and its value proposition in a given market&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Write non\u2010confidential technology summaries for marketing purposes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Identify potential commercialization\/licensing partners and business contacts relevant to each technology&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Contact identified partners to market technology&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Record and report contact and marketing information on a spreadsheet and\/or database&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Assist in the preparation of Confidentiality Agreements and other agreements relevant to the cases&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Assist in the evaluation of license terms by researching comparable transactions&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Participate in business calls and meetings resulting from marketing efforts&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Participate in the negotiation and execution of transactions resulting from marketing efforts (if appropriate)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Report on progress and meet with staff members and research students on regular basis<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Present results of projects to a larger audience as necessary<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>This is a role of great responsibility and potential impact since the activities of the UBL-Jaffna Intern will directly influence the successful translation of the leading-edge research performed by University of Jaffna researchers into a commercial setting thereby facilitating an impact of the University\u2019s innovative science and technology for the broadest public benefit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Through the course of the program, acquire an introduction to the field of technology transfer, intellectual property management, and marketing<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Acquire marketable skills and learn about other career paths<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Participate in special training and seminars on relevant topics<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>METHOD OF RECRUITMENT: &nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Selection by interview<strong>, <\/strong>This is a full-time\/part-time job. The Contract Appointment shall be for a period of 06 months of Non-Paid Internship. This is an unpaid position, but the selected Intern will gain hands\u2010on business development experience while learning about the technology transfer field.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE: &nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The required qualifications and experience are as follows: &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Education qualification required: Undergraduate or recent graduate of the University of Jaffna<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Can commit 10-20 hours per week at the UBL-Jaffna for at least six months time. Intern performance will be assessed every three months. The program length may be extended for interns in good standing.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>An interest in technology transfer and the commercialization of new technologies<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Working knowledge of patents and intellectual property is desirable but not essential<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ability to work efficiently; self\u2010starter; action\u2010oriented.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Excellent interpersonal, analytical, and oral\/written communication skills; professional demeanor; proficient computer skills and other office basics; good organizational skills.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Extensive research experience is preferred.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Be in good academic standing and have approval from their academic staff<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>HOW TO APPLY:&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Submit the following information via email to ubl@univ.jfn.ac.lk:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The term you wish to intern<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Cover letter<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Resume<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Written permission from the research staff or faculty Coordinator<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>This internship program is highly competitive and no one is guaranteed admittance.
