Progress of Technology Faculty

Eng. A. Kunaraj was appointed as the Faculty coordinator from Faculty of technology, University of Jaffna to coordinate with University Business Link (UBL) at the 8th Technology faculty board meeting, which was held on 28th of June 2018. In the 9th faculty board meeting which was held on 22nd October 2019, staff from the Faculty of technology, University of Jaffna were appointed as the members of UBL. They are Eng. Rtr. J. Joy Mathavan and Miss. K. Powshana.

The committee has decided to give a form to the students to identify the industries nearby their towns / villages, so that we may get an exposure to different industries related to our fields of specialization. The given forms then collected and reported in an excel sheet format. We talked with the identified industries about the training, field trips, current scenario of job market, demands for different specializations etc. Also we proceed with the necessary steps to send the students to those industries once they are finishing their 3rd year, by contacting them through the details obtained.

Through UBL, FOT, an industrial visit was arranged in Atchuveli Industrial Estate for the first batch students of Department of Engineering Technology in August 2018. They visited different manufacturing plants of Atchuveli Industrial Estate including nail making and sheet metal making factories.

The first stakeholders meeting of faculty of Technology, University of Jaffna conducted on 23rd August 2019 at Hector Kobbekaduwa Agrarian Research and Training Institute, Colombo. Experts from all five specializations namely Automobile Technology, Construction Technology, Electro Technology, Food Technology and Green Technology attended the meeting.

Prof. K Kandasamy as well as three staff members from Department of Engineering Technology; Dr. B. Ketheesan (Head of the Department, Engineering Technology) Eng. A.P.R.C. Ambagala (Lecturer, Automobile Technology) and Eng. A. Kunaraj (Lecturer Electro Technology) attended CDIO Initiative (Conceiving Designing Implementing and Operating) education forum at Singapore Polytechnic from 13th to 15th November 2019.

CDIO initiative is a newly introduced educational framework applicable to Engineering/Technology streams and currently used by many leading universities including MIT and Caltech. CDIO is a curricular planning and outcome based assessment that stresses engineering fundamentals in the context of Conceiving-Designing-Implementing and Operating real world systems and products. CDIO approach uses active learning tools such as group projects and problem based learning to better equip students with technical as well as communication and professional skills.

Representative form the Singapore Polytechnic are going to visit and assist us for developing our curriculum form on February 2020.
