யாழ் பல்கலைக்கழகத்தில் இன்று வர்த்தக உரிமம் கைச்சாத்து
தற்போதைய காலகட்டத்தில் அதிகரித்து வருகின்ற உக்கலடையாத / மக்காத பிளாஸ்ரிக் பொருட்களின் பாவனை காரணமாக மனிதன்,ஏனைய விலங்கினங்கள் மற்றும் சூழலுக்கு ஏற்படுகின்ற தீமைகளை கருத்திற் கொண்டு இயற்கை மூலப்பொருட்களாலான மக்கக்கூடிய பிளாஸ்ரிக் (Bio Plastic) ஒன்றினை யாழ்ப்பாணப் பல்கலைக்கழகத்தின் விவசாய பீட மற்றும் தொழில்நுட்ப பீட விரிவுரையாளர்கள் ஆராய்ச்சிகளின் மூலம் உருவாக்கியுள்ளனர்.
விவசாயபீட இரசாயனவியற் துறை சிரேஸ்ட விரிவுரையாளர் திருமதி.எஸ்.சுபாஜினி சிவகாந்தனின் தலைமையில் தொழில்நுட்ப பீடத்தின் உயிர்முறைமைகள் தொழில்நுட்ப துறையைச்சேர்ந்த விரிவுரையாளர் திருமதி.கேமஷாலினி கிருஸ்ணரூபன் மற்றும் முன்னாள் மாணவியும் தற்போதைய செயன்முறைக் காட்டுனருமான பி.எச்.எஸ். கௌமதி மற்றும் விவசாயபீட பீடாதிபதியும் விவசாய இரசாயனவியற் துறை பேராசிரியருமான எஸ். வசந்தரூபா ஆகியோரை உள்ளடக்கிய ஆராய்ச்சிக்குழுவானது யாழ்ப்பாணப் பல்கலைக்கழகத்தின் University Business Linkage (UBL-Jaffna) இன் நிதி அனுசரணையுடன் இக்கண்டுபிடிப்பினை மேற்கொண்டுள்ளனர். இந்த உக்கக்கூடிய முற்றிலும் இயற்கையான மூலப்பொருட்களை கொண்டு உருவாக்கப்பட்டுள்ள இப்பிளாஸ்ரிக் (Bio Plastic) ஆனது பெற்றோலியம் பொருட்களை கொண்டு தயாரிக்கப்படுகின்ற தற்போது இலங்கையில் அதிகளவில் பாவனையிலுள்ள பிளாஸ்ரிக் வகைகளுக்குப் மாற்றீடாக பாவிக்கக்கூடிய தரத்தினைக் கொண்டுள்ளதாக கண்டறியப்பட்டுள்ளது. இந்த ஆராய்ச்சியானது யாழ்ப்பாண பல்கலைக்கழகத்தின் விவசாய பீடத்தில் யப்பானின் நிதியுதவியால் நிர்மாணிக்கப்பட்ட ஆராய்ச்சி நிறுவனத்தில் மேற்கொள்ளப்பட்டது.
இக் கண்டுபிடிப்பை வர்த்தகமயமாக்குவதற்காக இலங்கையில் யாஎல எனும் பிரதேசத்தில் அமைந்துள்ள MRK Associates எனும் பிரபலமான இயற்கைப்பொருட்களை அடிப்படையாகக்கொண்ட பிளாஸ்ரிக் பொருட்களை உற்பத்தி செய்து விற்பனை மற்றும் ஏற்றுமதி செய்கின்ற நிறுவனமானது யாழ்ப்பாணப் பல்கலைக்கழகத்துடன் உரிம ஒப்பந்தம் ஒன்றினைக் கைச்சாத்திட முன்வந்துள்ளது. அத்துடன் இவ் ஆராய்ச்சிகளை மேலும் விரிவுபடுத்துவதற்கான நிதியுதவியையும் வழங்க இந் நிறுவனம் முன்வந்துள்ளது. இவ் உரிம ஒப்பந்தம் கைச்சாத்திடும் நிகழ்வானது UBL-Jaffna இன் வழிகாட்டலுடன் யாழ்ப்பாணப் பல்கலைக்கழகத்தில் 25 ஆம் திகதி கார்த்திகை மாதம் 2022 ஆம் ஆண்டு யாழ் பல்கலைக்கழக உபவேந்தர் பேராசிரியர் எஸ். சிறீசற்குணராஜா தலைமையில் இடம் பெற்றது.
இந்நிகழ்வில் பல்கலைக்கழக பதிவாளர், காசாளர் மற்றும் பேராசிரியர் சிவமதி சிவச்சந்திரன் (பீடாதிபதி, தொழில்நுட்பபீடம்), பேராசிரியர் தம்பு ஈஸ்வரமோகன் (Director,UBL Jaffna), திரு.அனுராகவன் (முகாமையாளர்,UBL Jaffna) மற்றும் பீட இணைப்பாளர்கள், MRK Associates (Pvt) Ltd. சார்பாக அதன் நிர்வாக இயக்குனர் திரு.C.R மனுவல் மற்றும் அவருடைய நிர்வாக ஊழியர்கள் பங்குபற்றினர்.
இவ் வியாபார உரிம கைச்சாத்தானது சில மாத காலங்களில் MRK Associates நிறுவனத்தால் உள்நாட்டிலும், சர்வதேச அளவிலும் விற்பனைக்காக Bio Plasticஐ உற்பத்திசெய்ய அனுமதிக்கின்றது.
We are happy to announce that the research titled ‘Cellulose Reinforced Bio-composite using Poly Lactic Acid (PLA), and Thermoplastic Starch (TPS)’ simply referred as “Bio Plastic” was developed at Department of Agricultural Chemistry, Faculty of Agriculture and Department of Biosystems Technology, Faculty of Technology, University of Jaffna. The inventors of this pending national patent invention was lead by Mrs. Subajiny Sivakanthan (Senior Lecturer / Department of Agricultural Chemistry), Ms. Podduwala Hewage Sathiska Kaumadi (Research Student and Demonstrator /Department of Biosystems Technology), Ms. K. Kemashalini (Probationary Lecturer/ Department of Biosystems Technology), Prof. S.Vasantharuba (Senior Lecturer, Department of Agricultural Chemistry).
Signing of Licencing Agreement of the bio plastic was held on the 25th of November 2022 from 9.30 am to 10.30 am at the University Board Room. The licensee of this Agreement was MRK Associates (Pvt) Ltd from Ja-Ela. The milestone event started with the welcome address by Prof. T. Eswaramohan (Director/UBL Jaffna). Followed by Prof. (Mrs) S.Sivachandiran (Dean/ Faculty of Technology) addressing on the background of the research and development. Next was Address by Mr.C.R.Manuel (Director, MRK Associates) on their business and Vision. Introduction about the product was done by Ms. Podduwala Hewage Sathiska Kaumadi (Co-Inventor /Department of Biosystems Technology). A brief Address by Prof Kanesh Rajah (Advisory Board member of UBL Jaffna, Dean and Professor of Entrepreneurial Behaviour and Innovation at The Royal
Agricultural College, United Kingdom). Prof. S. Srisatkunarajah (Vice Chancellor, University of Jaffna) addressed the significance of this milestone event. Followed by Signing of Licensing Agreement facilitated by Mrs. Thushani Shayanthan (Head of the Department /Department of Law). Official Photograph was taken and acknowledgment by Prof. S. Vasantharupa (Dean/ Faculty of Agriculture) as the final event. The Lump Sum payment through this Licensing agreement was Rs. One Million and the Royalty will be determined later.
In addition to the Licensing agreement, a sponsored research agreement was signed with the same licensee agreeing to invest in the further development of the research. This is the first occasion a licensee sponsoring for further research. This model is recommended to successfully commercialize research activities of University of Jaffna.
